Valley of Flowers Trek Photo Gallery
The Garhwal Himalaya of Uttaranchal, is exceptionally beautiful. From times immemorial, man has been attracted to the Himalaya. In the past, travelling through the Himalaya was a difficult thing. But due to good roads, suitable accommodation, arrangements for food and travel facilities, it has now become possible for anyone to go to this holy region whenever one wishes so.
The well known pilgrim places of Badri, Kedar, Gangotri and Yamunotri have become important not only to Hindus, but also to the people of all religious faiths. For trekkers and mountaineers, this region is challenging. It has the snow clad peaks of Trishul, Nandadevi, Kamet and Bandarpunch, the beautiful “Valley of Flowers” and the paradise like Hemkund Sarovar located at 14,500 ft. In July when the snow starts melting, multi-colored flowers emerge from the fertile soil. July-August is the best time to visit this valley, because in this season one can see it in its full glory. During this season of three months, about 400 varieties of flowers bloom in the valley. Thousands of tiny, wild flowers start blooming all over the valley. No one has ever planted any seeds here. It’s a creation of Nature and God.
A British mountaineer - Frank Smith, discovered this flower bedecked valley in 1931. He and his colleagues were returning from Kamet Peak expedition when they lost track and accidentally came across this wonder of the world. The month was July and the valley was in full bloom. Some of the flowers last only for a week, and then a new variety starts blooming with new colours and a new fragrane. After September they once again disappear for a long hibernation under the snow.
