What you will see

Rupin Pass is a high altitude pass across the Himalaya mountain range in state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It lies on a traditional shepherd and hiking route which starts from Dhaula in Uttarakhand and ends in Sangla in Himachal Pradesh. The path itself is located across mostly uninhabited areas in the Himalayan ranges at an elevation of 15,250 ft (4,650M) above sea level.

    Departure for Delhi by 12629 / 22685 Sampark Kranti Express from Pune Railway Station at 9 am. Overnight train journey.

    Arr. Delhi at 1.30pm and proceed to Dehradun by Train No 12055 Janshatabdi Express at 3.20 pm. Overnight halt at Dehradun.

    Dehradun – Dhaula by Bus

    1st day of trek starts from Dhaula walking along with the rupin river till sewa. Walk of 12 Kms.The trail ascends through a few friendly villages, and curves into a gorge. You can find apple orchards and appricots frequently on this route. You will also pass through Barley and Potato fields. There is a river and a number of rivulets towards the end of the trail. You will reach Sewa camp in 6 hours. Camp overnight at Sewa.

    Sewa to Jhaka is one of the tough day of this trek. Once you leave sewa camp, we enter Himachal Pradesh. Trek is long and little tough covering 14 km in 7 hours. The trek has few steep climbs followed by easy walks. There is a steep over-hanging trail walk which leads to a river. This long climb is followed by a descending walk through Deodar and Walnut trees upto Jhaka village. Jhaka is a small village, popularly known as the hanging village as it rests on the edge of the mountain side. Camp overnight at Jhaka.

    The trail makes its way out of the village through a playground, before entering a dense fir forest. Today also has a number of surprises in store with varied landscapes springing up unannounced. The trail passes snow bridges(In May & June), dense forests, and meadows with rivulets swiftly cutting across it. You will reach Lower Waterfall campsite in about 7 hours, covering a distance of 9 km. Camp overnight at Lower Waterfall Campsite.

    This day is very important for proper acclimatization. Since the entire walk is mostly on snow and ice, a trekking pole and ice axe will come in handy today. The trail from Dhanrashi / Lower waterfall passes through a number of streams that you need to hop over until you get to the mouth of the waterfall. It will take close to 2 hours to get to the upper waterfall camp. Camp overnight. ( *Note :in case of less snow / ice we will camp higher at Rataferi camp, which will help in achieving the summit next day)

    Prepare yourself for a long and gruelling, yet exciting day as you trek for almost 11 hours at a stretch. The trail is mostly on snow fields with steep ascents and all you see for miles and miles is a perfectly white hue. The pass is a saddle on a ridge line cutting its way through and across the Dhauladar range. Hundreds of little stone cairns line up the ridge line of the Rupin pass. On your way down from the pass, it is a sharp descent to the snowline and then to the meadows of Ronti Gad. You will reach Ronti Gad camp by evening

    The trail from Ronti gad to Sangla is a steep descent through diverse landscapes every few minutes. You will see spectacular mountain views of the Kinner Kailiash ranges while descending. As you near civilisation, the trail cuts across step farms and fruit orchards. It will take around 6 hours to reach Sangla.

    Sangla – Shimla by bus/Jeep.Journey time will be Approx 11hrs Night Halt at Shimla.

    Day free for sightseeing and rest at Shimla. Departure for Delhi by bus in the evening. Overnight bus journey.

    Arrive at Hotel Sunshine early morning, fresh up. Departure for Pune by train 12780 Goa Express at 3.00 pm from Nizamuddin Railway station. Overnight train journey.

Important Notes: Rupin Pass

The Fees include

    • Transportation & common accommodation from Pune to Pune.
    • Vegetarian meals along the trek route from the Base Camp to Base Camp.
    • Sleeping bag, mattress, tents, kitchen tent, toilet tent, utensils and crampon (if required).
    • Professional outdoor experts, guide, cook and support staff.
    • All necessary entry fees and permits.
    • First aid medical kit.
    • Porters/mules to carry common equipment.

The Fees does not include

    • Clothing of personal nature like trek shoes, kit bags, day packs, down jackets and other special clothing etc.
    • Meals during transit from Pune to Base Camp and back,
    • Medical expenses (apart from first aid).
    • Insurance.
    • Any kind of shopping, mineral water, optional sightseeings, and any other expenses of personal nature.
    • Bag offloading charges.
    • Any expenses arising out of unforeseen circumstances like flight delay / cancellation / hike in fare, strike or any other natural calamities or any emergency evacuation expenses.
    • Any other item not mentioned in the cost include section.

    The railway reservations begin 120 days prior to the date of departure. Hence, all the participants who wish to join this programme from Pune are requested to confirm their participation immediately to facilitate railway reservations.
