Himalayan Treks : Valley of Flowers

What you will see

From times immemorial, adventure seekers have been attracted to the Himalaya. The Garhwal Himalaya of Uttaranchal is house to numerous snow clad peaks like Trishul, Nandadevi, Kamet and Bandarpunch, the beautiful "Valley of Flowers" and the paradise of HemkundSarovar located at 14,500 ft. After May when the snow starts melting, multi-colored flowers emerge from the fertile soil. July-August is the best time to visit this valley, because in this season one can see it in its full glory. During this season about 400 varieties of flowers bloom in the valley. A British mountaineer - Frank Smith, discovered this flower bedecked valley in 1931. He and his colleagues were returning from Kamet expedition when they lost track and accidentally came across this wonder of the world. Some of the flowers last only for a week, and then a new variety starts blooming with new colors and a new fragrance. After September they once again disappear for a long hibernation under the snow.
