Tarsar Marsar Trek Overview
Aru a popular tourist hub with endearing valleys surrounded by lofty peaks and Lidder River makes it one of the most sought-after places for tourist and trekkers all over, its magnificent hills with tall pine trees, alpine meadows make it alluring. The raging Lidder River has two tributaries- Lidder east from Sheshnag Lake and Lidder west from Kolahai glacier. One should experience the rejuvenating walk along the riverside also famous for fishing where the anglers come from all over the world. Pahalgam is also an adventurer’s paradise with magnificent lakes and meadows scattered all across where one could go on numerous treks like Tarsar Marsar, Kolahai glacier, Sheshnag, Rohil Pattri, Basmai lakes and enjoy the gushing waters of Lidder by embarking on the raft during the summer months. Aru has rich vegetation and magnificent forests of pine, conifers, deodar, etc.

A list of things to carry

  • Backpack (40 to 60 Litres) 

  • Trekking Shoes (with rubber sole) 

  • 3-4 Cotton shirts 

  • 2 Trekking Pants or track pants

  • Thermal wear (optional) 

  • Daypack (optional if you are offloading the backpack) 

  • Waist Pouch (to keep important things handy) 

  • Woollen Scarf or Buff 

  • Woollen & Cotton socks (4-5 Pairs) 

  • Chappals 

  • Gloves (1 pair woollen, 1 pair waterproof) 

  • Light raincoat or Poncho 

  • Headlamp or Led Torch (with extra batteries) 

  • Trekking Pole (optional) 

  • Water Bottle 

  • Lunch Box 

  • Electoral Powder or ORS or Glucon-D 

  • Sewing Kit (Thread, Needle, Buttons) 

  • Sun glasses (Avoid Blue Shade) 

  • Note book & Pen 

  • Camera (optional) 

  • Toiletries (Sunscreen, Cold Cream, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Shampoo, etc.) 

  • Small and big plastic bags 

  • Backpack Rain cover 

  • Personal medical Kit (Pain Killer, Band-aid, antiseptic cream, cotton)

Important Note

Tour Plan :

01
Day 1: Srinagar → Aru Village

Assemble at Srinagar airport by 2.00 pm and transfer to Aru Village, Pehalgam.It is a scenic drive from Srinagar to Aru having a wonderful mix of grasslands, scattered forests and snow covered mountains. Overnight stay in Hotel at Aru.

Day 2: Aru Village → Lidderwat Camp

Trek starts from Aru Village with a gentle climb entering the forest with an easy hike towards Lidderwat on the well-marked trail with towering pine trees. It is almost a flat and easy trail up to Lidderwat and you would encounter a lot of tourist making day trips to the place. Overnight stay at Lidderwat in tent.

Day 3: Lidderwat → Shekwass

Today we start our trek towards Shekwass. You would find many friendly shepherds on the route and it is a very beautiful valley, not much strenuous. Overnight stay in tents at Shekwass Camp.

Day 4: Shekhwas → Tarsar Lake

From Shekwass we move towards Tarsar Lake which is a gradual ascent, it would take us around 2 hours to reach Tarsar Lake. Tarsar is a huge lake and very similar to Gangabal lake on the trek from Naranag in Ganderbal. Enjoy the turquoise blue waters of Tarsar for the day.

Day 5: Tarsar → Marsar & Sundersar

Today, we will trek towards the sister lake of Tarsar that lies on the opposite side of the mountain on the west. A steep ascend taking about 3 hours and a gradual descend leads to another stunning lake called Sundersar and visit Marsar Lake. Overnight stay in the tents at Sundersar.

Day 6: Homwas → Homwas

Today we start off the day by visiting Marsar Lake and head down towards Homwas Camp. Overnight camp at Homwas.

Day 7: Homwas → Aru Village

Starting off early morning today, we descend from Homwas to Aru, sweeping over the same enchanting meadow lands we had experienced on the first days, and the same Lidder River, now to be followed downstream. We will reach Aru by Noon. After Lunch we will leave for Srinagar. Overnight stay at Srinagar.

Day 8: Srinagar → Srinagar

It's time to bid a good bye to the fellow trekkers and proceed for your onward journey back home
